Our recommendations of the best places to eat healthy and work out in Dubai

With new studios seeming to open their doors every week and a wave of ‘healthy’ cafes and restaurants taking over Dubai to match trendy diet-fads it can be daunting to choose wisely. We’ve picked the wheat from the chaff and curated a selection of our favourite fitness centers and eateries to help you navigate the city’s offerings.

Recommended Fitness Facilities in Dubai

Tried and tested. We’ve hit a lot of gyms in town, visited countless new studios, and signed up for every free trial out there. These are the ones that made the cut and are our go-to places to work out or attend classes in Dubai. You’ll often find us at one of these spots, come say hi!

We started our fitness journey with pilates and it remains a core favourite to date. Olivia and Paul are amazing instructors and the Reformer Cardio class is a welcome alternative to the treadmill. They’ve got a great online booking system too!

Jump around with a Columbian dancer and get trim all at once? The Slim Down class with Liris is no joke – you’ll be laughing at how uncoordinated you are and not laughing at all through the hip and thigh sequence. If you’re an early riser and you like being sore for days, this one is for you.
AED 110 per session. Exhale Fitness, Murjan 1, Plaza Level, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai Marina

Our barre class of choice! Physique57 is a unique combo of ballet moves, pilates, weights and choreography. It’s usually packed with yoga-mum types but don’t let them fool you – this is a tough workout that’ll have your thighs trembling and your core aching.
AED 125 per class. Physique57, Citywalk complex, next to Emirates NBD Bank, Jumeirah 1
04 3448757

Our first foray into hardcore bootcamp territory. This took us from being ‘yoga girls’ to being seriously fit. We lost a ton of weight and got incredibly lean with compound exercises, tabatas and cardio over the 8-week challenge. It’s also worth attending for founder & trainer Jordan’s sense of humour alone.
AED 1000 for 24 sessions. Various locations in Safa Park, JLT and Kite Beach
04 390 5100

If you’d like to step-up your yoga game, the Vinyasa Flow and Ashtanga classes at Zen are the way to go. This is where we perfected our Wheel pose and learnt how to do headstands. Be prepared to sweat and stretch to your limits!
Packages starting from AED 300 for 5 classes. Media City Zen Yoga, BBC building 10, Ground floor

Healthy Food Delivery, Takeaway & Dine-In in Dubai

Looking for low fat, low calorie meals in Dubai? Or perhaps vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, gluten-free or paleo and high-protein options? Or perhaps you’re counting macronutrients, looking for organic food, or want to ensure that your food is prepared as a balanced meal with no extra butter, fat, sugar or sauce added. We’ve rounded up our favourite places to eat healthy in Dubai to make sure you don’t ever bust your diet.

You’ll find delivery options grouped by neighborhood area below. If you’re searching for gluten free food we’ve created a Gluten Free Guide and grouped options by type of cuisine as well.

If you’re calorie counting it can’t get easier than ordering from KCal. Go for the high-protein, low fat mains such as Mexican Chicken Broccoli which comes in at 37.1g of protein and 233 calories, or the Grilled Honey Mustard Chicken which has 42.2g of protein and only has 286 calories. Avoid juices and soups which can be high in hidden sugars.
Mains at approx. AED 40. KCal, Unit 23, Lake Terrace Tower, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Dubai, U.A.E
Delivers to Media City, Knowledge Village, JLT, Emirates Hills, Meadows, Lakes, The Greens

Just Salad
The California salad at Just Salad is a great lunch option. Coming in at 300 calories it boasts roasted chicken, romaine lettuce, avocado, egg whites, tomatoes and toasted almonds as it’s ingredients. Skip the dressing – even a low-fat balsamic vinaigrette is 60 calories.
AED 40. Just Salad, Indigo Tower, Cluster D, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Dubai.
Delivers to Media City, JLT, Emirates Hills, Meadows, Lakes, The Greens

Nofara launched about a year ago as a local cafe and deli with a regional twist. It recently revamped it’s menu to include a huge range of gluten-free options. Bear in mind that just because something is gluten-free does not necessarily mean it’s healthy. For a healthy breakfast get the 3 egg-white omelette with smoked salmon or the gluten-free grilled mushroom stack with baby spinach, caramelized red onion & cherry tomato topped with a poached organic egg. For lunch the healthiest option is the Lettuce Wrapped Chicken Sliders with mango salsa & baby greens.
Breakfast at AED 25-30, Mains at approx AED 50. Nofara Cafe, below Swiss Tower, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Cluster Y, Dubai
Delivers to Media City, JLT, Emirates Hills, Meadows, Lakes, The Greens
800 NOFARA (800 663 272)

While being able to customize your salad with lots of yummy toppings sounds good on paper, it can be easy to get carried away, pile on lots of extra calories and miss the point of eating a salad entirely. Your best bet? Keep it simple and fresh and order a Regular Meal with baby spinach, rocket, mixed greens or romaine lettuce as a base. Add any 6 additional ingredients – avoiding the fruits. Then add grilled chicken or tuna to finish. Give the hard boiled eggs, cold cuts and red meat a miss as they are too high in fat and sodium. Skip the dressing and you have a lean, mean salad. Once a week you could add avocado, cashews or goats cheese to keep it interesting but try not to do it on a regular basis.
AED 43-46. Richys, Ground Floor, HDS Tower, Cluster F, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai.
Delivers to Jumeirah lake Towers, The Gardens, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Media City, Dubai Internet City, Knowledge Village, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Tecom, The Greens, Dubai Marina, Springs and Meadows, Palm Jumeirah.
800 RICHYS (742 497)

77 Veggie Boutique
For the vegetarians out there this makes ordering a snap. The lentil soup comes in at 191 calories and the Baby Potatoes sautéed in fenugreek, pepper strips and aubergine dish at only 175 calories. The dishes are pretty carb heavy though so avoid the breaded and gluten-free pasta options and choose meals that are high in actual vegetable content. Smoothies and soups are packed with sugars or thickeners so should be avoided.
AED 22-47. 77 Veggie Boutique, Tiffany Tower, Cluster W, Lake level, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai
Delivers to Media City, JLT, Emirates Hills, Meadows, Lakes, The Greens.
04 422 4116

Public Cafe
We’re fans of the juice at Public Cafe – served in gorgeous glass jars no less. Try the Grapefruit Super Juice or the Berry Blast for a mid-morning pick-me-up.
AED 21-22. Public Cafe, G5-06, One Lake Plaza Tower, Cluster T, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai
Delivers to JLT.
04 451 9670

A similar concept to S’wich, a Mantoushe salad bowl with chicken, feta cheese, tomatoes, onions and pine nuts will set you back just AED 28. You can build your salad online and save it for future orders too.
AED 28. Mantoushe, Concourse level, P3 Armada Tower, Cluster P, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai.
Delivers to JLT, Dubai Marina, Emirates Hills, Springs and Meadows.
04 277 8170

Doctor Chef
With a focus on ingredients and spreading nutrition education, Doctor Chef claims to ‘match taste and therapy’ with it’s heart and liver-healthy cuisine. Here you’ll find balanced meals designed by chef Akshay Nayyar – the executive chef at Signature restaurant in the Meliá Hotel who is also a judge on the UAE’s hugely popular reality food TV show, Foodshala.
AED 50 approx. Doctor Chef, H6, Promenade level, Cluster H, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai.
Home delivery not yet available.

Circle Cafe
When it comes to wholesome salads, Circle Cafe is certainly generous with it’s portions. However, a lot of their salads contain dairy and gluten with the addition of bagel chips and hunks of cheese – big on taste but also big on calories. Choose wisely by getting the Italian Chicken Almond Salad, Goat Cheese Salad, Asian Salad (pass on the soy dressing) or Pumpkin salad (we like to add chicken to this one). The vegetarian rice wrap rolls or crudites with hummus dip are great to share as a starter for two too. If you’re craving a heavier meal try the Circle No Bun burger (though it racks up about 650 calories + another 300 if you eat the sweet potato fries) or the Grilled Salmon with a squeeze of lemon instead of the default teriyaki sauce.
AED 20-24 for a starter, AED 46 for a salad, AED 54-74 for a main. Circle Cafe, behind CNN building, Dubai Media City, Dubai
Delivers to Media City, JLT, Dubai Marina, The Greens.
04 391 5170

Our favourite salad from Joga is the Chicken & Edamame Salad but their other salads are good too. You can also get a wheatgrass shot here for AED 12.
AED 35 for a salad. Joga, Food Court Area, CNBC Building 7, Dubai Media City, Dubai.
Delivers to Media City, JLT, Dubai Marina, The Greens.
04 420 6304

Urban Bistro
Urban Bistro has a huge eggs breakfast menu and while they use healthy ingredients they’re very rich and high in fat and calories. Go for the gluten-free porridge or a market fruit salad if you’re there for brekkie. The Super Green Salad, Beetroot Spinach Salad and Organic Salmon Nicoise are delicious – just skip the extravagant dressings. For lunch or dinner you can’t go wrong with the grilled tuna or salmon mains. They also have a bun-free ‘Skinny Burger’ though the BBQ sauce makes it less skinny.
AED 20 for breakfast, AED 40-56 for a salad, AED 70 -72 for a main dish. Urban Bistro, Lake side, CNN Building, Dubai Media City, Dubai.
Delivers to Media City, JLT, Dubai Marina, The Greens.
04 425 9333

1762 The Gourmet Deli Co
You’ll be lucky if you get a table here. The ever evolving fresh options behind the glossy salad bar don’t disappoint. You can add cajun spiced chicken breast, lemon poached salmon or rosemary dijon sliced New Zealand beef to any of the mouth-watering salads at the deli counter too.
Ground floor, OMD Building, Dubai Media City.
Call to check delivery zones.
800 1762

Pascal Tepper
Pascal Tepper’s salad bar makes lunch a snap as you can build your own with an array of fresh and inventive ingredients. Their macaroons are pretty good too.
Pascal Tepper, Main road, Next to Emirates NBD Bank, Dubai Media City.
Delivers to Media City, Tecom & The Greens.
04 454 2408

Sushi Counter
We love the seaweed salad, rice-free hand-rolls and sashimi.
Next to Emirates NBD, Media City Food Court Area, Media City.
Delivers to Media City, The Greens, Tecom & JLT.
800 2686837

Miyabi Sushi & Bento
Go for the Shabu Shabu, sashimi, or donburi (make sure it’s plain rice and not sushi rice). Don’t forget to take your Tamari sauce along!
Business Central Towers Media City, next to Four Points by Sheraton Sheikh Zayed Road.
Delivers to Media City, Tecom & The Greens.
04 4542494

Bateel Cafe
We often go to Bateel just to get a coffee and get my hands on their gorgeous stuffed dates. They do lovely gluten-free pasta and risotto and we’re a huge fan of the chicken and avocado salad (with no dressing).
Business Central Towers Media City, next to Four Points by Sheraton Sheikh Zayed Road.
Delivers to Media City, Tecom & The Greens.

Kitsch Counter
The rebranded concept of Kitsch Cupcakes, it’s no surprise that this place has some nice GF options – including it’s famous gluten-free cupcakes. Paleo muffins, homemade nut butters and jams, a delicious kale salad, zucchini bread, gluten-free home-baked granola and chia seed pudding make up the rest of the line-up.
Kitsch Counter, Jumeirah Beach Road

Comptoir 102
This is amongst the freshest places you can eat in Dubai. Everything tastes wholesome and the dishes are simple – though in very small portions! Gluten-free millet tabbouleh, buckwheat pancakes, eggs, smoked salmon and avocado, delicious homemade dips and beetroot soup, and a selection of gluten-free desserts. Yum!
Comptoir 102, 102 Beach Rd, Jumeirah 1
Delivery to Jumeirah, Satwa and DIFC areas.

Omnia Gourmet
Omnia specializes in gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, raw, organic and locally sourced foods.
I’ve never seen so many gluten-free dessert options in one place before! Go wild! you can eat pretty much anything on the menu and there’s plenty of choice. For the first time in a long time I could actually choose what I eat rather than only having one or two options. The mains are all good but I leave lots of space for dessert – I’m a fan of the Paleo Love (chocolate, cashew and pistachio slice with pecan crust), chocolate and coconut budino and chocolate and raspberry brownie.
Omnia Gourmet, Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah Fishing Harbour.

Mamatani Cafe
This is a rare breed: a fusion Emirati cafe serving up freshly baked ‘Khameeers’: a traditional Emirati bread which the cafe stuffs with creative fillings. Tucked away in a corner of Town Centre the cafe boasts a family atmosphere in a contemporary setting and is a truly unique offering in town.
Mamatani Cafe, Town Centre, Jumeirah 1.

The queue to get in to Tasha’s is longer than a nightclub’s but it’s well worth the wait for a bowl of gluten- and wheat-free linseed, sunflower seed and almond porridge that is pure Instagram food porn with it’s sliced banana, chopped dates and almond toppings.
Tasha’s, Unit 24, The Galleria, Al Wasl Road, Al Safa.

Lime Tree Cafe
Lime Tree Cafe is the original fresh, deli-style eatery concept that hit Dubai way waaaayyy before it got ‘trendy’. The original branch is still our favourite. Sit out on the upstairs terrace with a salad of your choice from the deli counter, order some organic eggs or try their famous carrot cake!
Jumeirah 1 next to Spinneys, Al Quoz, Sheikh Zayed Road Opposite Gold & Diamond Park.
Delivery not available.
04 325 6325 Ext 101

The Hamptons Cafe
Montauk Eggs are a gluten free ‘Eggs Benedict’ that I dream of at the weekend. The risotto is good, as is the spiced creme brulee.
The Hamptons Cafe, Jumeirah Road.
Delivery not available.
04 331 7979

We love simple, freshly prepared food. The tuna tataki salad is the star here, but their octopus salad and bean salad is pretty awesome too.
Jumeirah 1 next to Spinneys and Jumeirah Beach Residence.
Delivers to Jumeirah 1.
04 423 0855

Heat Cafe & Grill
Heat Cafe is a healthy version of an American Diner concept. Friday morning calls for gluten-free pancakes and Heat is my favourite. They’ve got a bunch of healthy eats and when the weather’s good you can sit outside too.
Heat Cafe, Jumeirah Beach Road, Umm Suqeium.
Delivers to Umm Suqeim & Jumeirah areas.
04 338 8831

Jones The Grocer
Their salads are great and they’ve recently introduced an amazing poached chicken and burrata salad that is pure joy to eat. Their gluten free bread is great with an eggs breakfast. Their cheese room, deli section and desserts options are incomparable to any other offering in Dubai too. Pleasure to eat here, pleasure to shop here.
Jones The Grocer, Indigo Central 8 – Sheikh Zayed Road, Opposite Times Square.
No delivery available.
04 346 6886

Pantry Cafe
The service at Pantry is pretty awful. But their shakshouka is delicious and worth the (usually) long wait times.

04 388 3868

Try the grilled fish or chicken and the sashimi dishes.
Al Kawakeb Building Sheikh Zayed Road.

Frioul Bistro De Luxe
This is our favourite place to brunch in Dubai. We also really love their vegetable crudites tray served on a bed of baked cauliflower as well as their tartare. Proper French food in an easy casual setting by the waterways of the Madinat Jumeirah.
Frioul Bistro De Luxe, Madinat Jumeirah Complex.
Delivery not available.

Ah Zuma. This old favourite never fails to impress with it’s lush, sprawling interiors, fine cuisine and impeccable service. Choose edamame, Miso soup (made with GF soy sauce), GF chicken wings (oh boy, oh boy, oh boy), steak and sorbet or a fruit platter to finish. Perfection.
Zuma, Gate Village 06, DIFC

Okku, 1st Floor, The H Hotel Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Road.

Kif Kif
Healthy Moroccan food? Yes please. While this is decidedly bread-heavy (in true Moroccan cuisine style!), their salads are fresh and there are plenty of grilled meat options. It’s a cute spot to sit out at when the weather is good, after a day at the beach.
Kif Kif, Opposite Emirates Petrol Station, Next to First Gulf Bank, Umm Suqqeim.

Barracuda has been around for decades and is the best place to go if you want fresh fish, cooked to your liking, and where you can pick off a tray of Middle Eastern side dishes to accompany your main dish. Go for the catch of the day and grab as many bowls of hummus, moutabbel and various tomato dips as you can. This place is a Dubai legend, and for good reason.
Barracuda Restaurant, Beach Road, Umm Suqqeim.
No delivery available. Fresh fish should be eaten, you know, fresh.

We order our lunch salad from S’wich pretty much daily. A rocca bowl with chicken + extra rocca, red onions, potato cubes, tomatoes, chives and with a tzatziki dressing will take you a long way to hitting your protein and vegetable intake for the day.
AED 30 for a salad bowl with extra chicken. S’wich, Marina View Towers, Shop 9, Ground Floor, Marina View Towers A, Dubai Marina
Delivers to Dubai Marina, Media City, Knowledge Village, JLT, Emirates Hills, Meadows, Lakes, The Greens, Tecom
